Choosing a Bootcamp

Choosing a Bootcamp

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt.

Coding Bootcamps are still a new concept in the tech industry, yet they are popping up all over the nation. While computer science programs are filling up and expanding, there simply aren’t enough CS graduates to fill the tech needs. Last year in Idaho alone, there were 6,000 IT positions left unfilled. It was in 2012 that the first coding bootcamps were launched in an effort to find a solution to closing this gap. The approach was somewhat different than the traditional classroom setting: full immersion in a hands-on program that focused on developing real, applicable skills. After these first successes, the idea of coding bootcamps grew and spready each year. By 2018, over 20,000 students had graduated from 108 bootcamp campuses (Course Report). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in Software Development is projected to grow 24% from 2016 to 2026, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. That’s approximately 1,256,200 jobs!

With so many options in today’s world, how do students identify which choice is the best for them: Computer Science or Coding Bootcamp? It really depends on your preference, budget, time, and goals. The average bootcamp student spends $11,000 on a program (our Immersive Full-Stack program is $7,800) and an average of 3 – 6 months in the classroom. There is also a high level of success for bootcamp grads. A study conducted by SwitchUp (2018) showed an average of 80% placement rates among bootcamp graduates.  Conversely, the average out-of-state cost for a 4-year bachelor program in Computer Science is $41, 992, with an average job placement rate of 61% (State of College Hiring Report, 2015). Once you’ve identified coding bootcamps to be a good match for you, how do you choose which program to attend?

We have had students move across the country to attend our program, from a wide variety of places, including: New York, Colorado, Nevada, Massachusetts, California, and other states. We’ve even had an international student from Barcelona Spain! We’ve had students take advantage of our acceptance of the GI bill, students who are looking for a more affordable experience in an affordable community, and we’ve had students join us because of our reputation for an outstanding community and quality student experience.

There are many reasons that go into the selection of a students’ educational institution. Check out a few of these testimonials on why our students chose CodeWorks.

Boise CodeWorks was an amazing experience and well worth the time, effort, and money. The teachers and staff are very knowledgable and genuinely care about your success as a developer. Though the work is difficult, they really provided the information and resources you need to grow your practical knowledge about coding. They cater to a variety of learning styles and levels of skill, which was very helpful…..I started the course with little coding experience, but with all of the available support and guidance from the staff and my drive to succeed, I received a job offer with a great company in less than a week after graduating.”- Kimberly Streicher (To read the full review click here).
